Traditional fillings are made out of silver amalgam. At our practice, though, we prefer to use composite resin, which is a mixture of ultra-fine plastic and glass particles. We can shade composite resin so that it matches the color of your natural teeth; this way, we can place a filling that blends in so perfectly that most people don’t even realize that it’s there.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

The process of having a tooth-colored filling placed is very simple. In fact, it can often be completed in just one visit, although the exact timeline depends on your circumstances.

Before placing a filling, we will numb the area of the mouth where the tooth in question is located. Sedation is available if you’re nervous about having dental work done. Once we’re sure you’re comfortable, we’ll begin the process of removing the decayed portions of the tooth. Then, the space is filled with composite resin to restore the enamel that was lost.

Composite resin fillings are placed in layers that are subsequently hardened in place with an ultraviolet light. This is done to prevent the material from being washed away. Once your filling is in place, we will sculpt and reshape it to help it look as natural as possible.
